second opinion - eu interference
WORKERS, NOV 2004 ISSUE
Before one sod has been turned or one brick laid for the proposed new Thames Gateway Bridge, which will link Beckton in East London with Thamesmead on the south bank, the European Union has intervened. Local residents and businesses were to be charged lower tolls as part of the regeneration of the Thames Gateway, but the EU has declared this unlawful.
You cannot cross the Thames without EU permission. You cannot cross the Thames for free as the EU is imposing a toll. You cannot determine what that toll will be without EU dictat. Who has the greater authority - the people of London or the EU, supported by the Mayor of London?
